    By the way, some nice and flashy software that a automatically fixes your partitions sometimes can do more damage than good, that's why I'd recommend testdisk. It might be more advanced to use, but it does not do anything you don't want it to.
    Also, ddrescue is a powerful tool as well for recovering data.

    Not really. The director sent the drive to a lab, but so far nothing has been recoverable. They were extremely vauge as to the actual issue with the drive-- something to the effect of the actual chip is bad and not the controller. So.... yeah, no more 480's for me. What an absolutely gut wrenching mistake. It works perfect... until it doesn't.

    So then... we'll send it off to one other lab and cross our fingers yet again... but it doesn't look good.
