The one thing that doesn't surprise me is that you get more DR if you downsample. It's just because of the way they measure it (signal-to-noise). It happens exactly the same on the dxomark numbers for stills cameras: the a7R III gets a score of 13.5 stops if you look at it 1:1 ("screen") but 14.7 stops if you downsample to 8Mpix ("print").

Take ANY dynamic range test with a few pinches of salt.

This cannot be right. Also no difference between Pocket ProRes and RAW. ? Raw got highlight recovery and the noise is different. Hmmm.
No dynamic range test should use Highlight Recovery because that isn't real dynamic range. When Highlight Recovery is enabled, it tries to modify the clipped channels with data from channels that haven't clipped. It's effectiveness depends on the way that the highlights clipped and it can sometimes introduce false colors into the highlights.

The real DR difference between the GH5 and GH5s may be as much as 2 stops, but Panasonic's implementation of V-LOG L is truncating GH5s results. When the GH5s was tested by the European Broadcasting Union, they were showing more than one stop of additional DR when they used the HLG profile instead of V-LOG L.

I understand the HLG footage is a bit tricky to grade, no?

HLG is gamma 2.4 between 0%-50% and then a log curve above that. As such, it offers no advantages in shadow recovery, but is nice and easy to use for highlight recovery. It's actually pretty easy to work with if you understand that limitation.

I did some DR tests between the Pocket 4K and the Ursa Mini 4.6k. Needless to say I was impressed with how much the Pocket 4K held up. The Ursa Mini 4.6k was better though. Looking forwards to what more official tests say

^ Interesting. Would you say the p4k has around a stop less DR than the 4.6k, or is the difference a bit bigger than that?

4.6k should have 2 stops more then the pocket 4K according to blackmagic.
