Based on the specs posted on Blackmagic's website, the sensor in the Blackmagic Pocket 4K has 4.63m photosites (18.96mm width / 4096 pixels = 4.63m). That is the same photosite size of the Sony IMX294CJK sensor. Everything else matches as well, such as the same 13 stops of DR, frame rates in 4K and HD, dual ISO enabled, plus it physically looks the same.

Here is Sony's website for the sensor: https://www.sony-semicon.co.jp/produ...x294cjk_e.html

Here is a better breakdown with more numbers and graphs of what the sensor can do: https://astronomy-imaging-camera.com...si294mc-color/

This is also most likely the same sensor in the GH5S, as everything in the GH5S matches that Sony sensor as well. It's been speculated for a while as well: http://www.4kshooters.net/2018/01/06...tarvis-sensor/

Based on the full well capacity and read noise numbers for this sensor, the Pocket 4K is not going to have as good of DR as the original Pocket. The original Pocket had about 14.6 stops of DR. There is, of course, normally a trade off between resolution and dynamic range.

Also, if you want to shoot using Super 16 lenses on the Pocket 4K, a resolution of 2736x1539 (14.53mm) would be about the max size you would get for a lens that doesn't have an image circle larger than Super 16.

On paper new sensor is very nice, but needs real life tests.
BMPCC /BMMCC vs BMPCC 4K sensor specs:
Full well capacity: 33000e vs 63700e. (probably this may be related to pixel amount)
    QE peak: 50% vs 75%.
Rolling Shutter 13.3ms vs 11.5ms (depends of camera processor) http://www.dvxuser.com/V6/showthread.php?303559

Also 4K downsampled to HD hides noise, FPN and maybe moire.

I agree, looks like the GH5S/Sony sensor. Good RS readout times too, better than the original Pocket camera.
Even at 12 MS, it edges out the Micro Cinema at 13MS, but the Micro Studio is still on top at 9MS.

Same sensor doesn't mean same output AT ALL.

We have seen this before with sensors that went in cameras from different makers.
Cameras: Blackmagic Cinema Camera, Blackmagic Pocket Camera (x2), Panasonic GH2 (x2), Sony RX100 ii, Canon 6D, Canon T2i,
Mics: Sennheiser, AKG, Shure, Sanken, Audio-Technica, Audix
Lights: Every Chinese clone you can imagine

    Any examples? I'm curious.

Agree. But BM usually makes job well. Also cameras use very advanced cooling system.

BTW this is 4.6K sensor specs to compare

I'm a little bummed out by the possibility of a Dynamic Range reduction. The 13 stops on the BMPCC is a solid part of why it's imagery looks so nice. I was ready to compromise for the 13 stops over the Ursa Mini's 15 but now that it might be even less I'm a little concerned. Either way, I intend to pick up this camera and do a ton of tests on it before returning it if there's something about the image that ruins it.

But really, all of this could just be fueled by how much I hate the look of GH and Sony cameras. At least the crop factor will be vastly more manageable on this camera and without adding the problems of the Speedbooster.

Interesting as the GH5s in vlog-l is maybe 11 stops but it has been started a trade off in dynamic range was made in order to make vlog-l easily match vlog. So there could be a couple of stops to pull out in bed film log. Very excited to test out some footage in resolve.

Yea, I'm definitely looking forward to BlackMagic giving us some footage to grade.

Couldn't it instead be the Fairchild Imaging MST4323A? It's listed hear as being 4/3 sized and 4096x2160.

Not sure how old that information is though, nor do I have any additional info about it.
