Nobody will refuse a good movie because it is not 4K

Anything they release that's in the price range below the Ursa line will be nothing like the original BMCC - not the shape, or battery or sensor - there won't be any more HD cameras.

However they do it, whether it's keeping the modular route like the Micros (which I would love) or evolving a more feature packed small form factor like a Micro Ursa (which I'd also love) - it will still be about the color science and DR, so it's all good.

Highly paid producers make the decision to not shoot 4K every day. What do they know that we don't?

    1. Saves them money.
    2. Sale of HD/FHD televisions are still available to the masses. The low end consumer market, which is a very huge segment, still buys affordable HD/FHD TVs.
    3. Most movie audience, your average Joe movie goer, will give little or no care for the technology or resolution of the image as long as the story is good and the picture is acceptable.
    4. Cost of ticket sale does not increase based on the resolution of the movie.
I think they can go on and on... bottom line, until 4K is cheap to produce and/or they can have better returns on investing in 4K, smart (that's why they are highly paid) producers will continue to make the decision to not shoot 4K. I hope I'm wrong but so far, I've been shooting in 4K and none of my clients have asked to provide the final deliverable in 4K. They want it burned on a DVD that can be played on any DVD player (not Blu-ray). In my client order form, I asked if they want the option of Archival and also 4K. Today, unless one of those option is checked, I still use a 4K camera but just shoot in HD to save space and cost.

What I would like is a 4K URSA with the color science of the BMCC (that's more closer to the Alexa) instead of the newer BMD color science on the URSA, and can shoot at 2.5K. Essentially, a 4K URSA with a BMCC 2.5K IQ.

The newer colour science IS much closer to Alexa than the BMCC colour science with BMDFilm. Gen 4 is closer than its ever been. The BMCC is miles away in comparison.
