Is the Ursa Mini Pro near as good as the Canon C300 Mark II? Has it arrived there yet?

    Thank you for opinions.

It depends who you ask, haha.

Blackmagic has always had such potential and provides amazing quality with a healthy camera, but a lot of professionals in the industry will never consider the cameras for any serious work. Some people - believe it or not - still don't even know they make cameras.

Most of the BM community knows nothing else and will defend them to the death either because of their loyalty or inexperience with other companies.

IMO, the C300s are better cameras in almost every single way besides pure cinematic image quality (and internal PR444 recording) where it matters the most to many.

I don't know but I bumped into more professionals shooting with BMD cameras than any other makes. If I was recommending a camera for a complete newby or casual shooter it would be Canon. If they want to buy a BMD camera they will have to swot up on all the quirks.

Hi, do you mean to say that the cinematic image quality of the UMP is higher? Thank you. It is also an advantage that you do not need the additional cost of an Atomos for the Ursa Mini Pro.

Define "better". :-) Personally, I haven't liked working with XAVC from the C200 and C300 as much as raw and Prores from the UM4.6k... but that's a personal thing I think. If I were doing projects where I was mostly using available light and I needed to move fast, I would probably gravitate towards one of the Canon cameras. Otherwise, I prefer Red and Blackmagic over Canon for scripted narrative and corporate work.

More about the look, IMO...but I think most would agree BM cameras have a very cinematic look where as a Canon can have it, but it takes more work. The 4.6K sensor is my least favorite, but still; the BM recipe is there.

First one is UMP and the second is Alexa Mini. Interested to know how were they graded?

Damn...the Alexa and Alexa Mini really do OWN skin tones.
The URSA here has significantly greener/grayer skin tones, but overall the comparison is pretty compelling.

As for URSA mini Pro vs. C300 mkII, the price difference is so huge and the image quality and features so close, that the UMP is obviously a far far better value, but never doubt this: the C300 mkII is one incredibly badass camera. Seriously.
