Got test prints today. Dimensions and geometry almost perfect. If i find a proper solvent or paint for post processing the surface of the box will be uniform and clean. Final batch will be printed from coPET (same as PET) Is appears more rigid and solid than Elastsn D70. More photos of assembled box coming soon...

Looking good, I wouldn't worry about the slight texture on the cover, and a light sanding with fine grit emery should take care of the edges.

Earlier photos showed box made from Elastan D70. It has matte and rubber-like surface. It is almost impossible to sanding. And now!!! Box made from coPET after sanding with installed connectors (this time oem China connectors for crush dummy test only). Overall it is usable but now it became grey, not black. Probably the simplest way is to paint it with acrylic spray to get a uniform surface.

    awesome

if you are selling these I'm tempted to ditch my pie in the sky ubercage idea and just go with this
I'm still determined to do the grip though...

I think next week we'll see a production batch of printed boxes. One box takes 3 hours to print but i find a very nice 3D print lab, its like printer farm - they have many FlashForge Creator Pro printers and can print few details at the same time. They working very fast and save me a lot of time with those test models.
But there are still few manual work slowdowns like sanding, painting, grinding the excess 2mm from the screw tips, wiring cables and so on...

    Price point target remains $50

Here is one more setup example with smaller profile 3.5mm plugs and angle DC power plug

Sanded, painted with texture paint and black paint layer (RAL9005). Now i'm happy with result and ready for batch manufacture.
