I use a Sigma F2.8 / 70-210 mm APO Zoom (Nikon mount) to compliment the long end.
Comes pretty close in look and feel, and was just 200 bucks used.

I have the Sigma also. It paired well while I still had the tokina and GH5, definitely not the sharpest but has a nice character to it for video. You can find the sigma quite cheap if you look hard enough. I paid 100 for it and a nikon 60mm d series macro lens.

I picked up an EF mount version 2 of this lens. I went EF as I wanted the typical focus direction, but also to use it with autofocus for stills. It seems the EF version isn't nearly as popular as the Nikon, but I'm happy with it.

What would kind of match this lens on the wider end?

Off the top of my head I'd say maybe the Canon FD 14mm f/2.8... but they are crazy expensive.
Cameras: Blackmagic Cinema Camera, Blackmagic Pocket Camera (x2), Panasonic GH2 (x2), Sony RX100 ii, Canon 6D, Canon T2i,
Mics: Sennheiser, AKG, Shure, Sanken, Audio-Technica, Audix
Lights: Every Chinese clone you can imagine

I haven't used the 28-70mm to compare. But would the Tokina 11-16mm match? It is a reasonably priced wide.

    You could look at these:

    Canon FD 20-35mm f/3.5
    Canon FD 20mm f/2.8
    Canon FD 17mm F/4
    Contax Zeiss 18mm f/4

Not many vintage lenses wider than that (that aren't fisheye, or crazy expensive), but with a focal reducer all above can can be very useful.

You'll need to replace the mounts to EF for the Canon FD lenses (Edmika makes them for US$75 each). You can get EF mount replacements for the Contax from Leitax.

I own all of them except the Canon FD 17mm f/4. They are all a bit sharper than the Tokina 28-70, but should match pretty well with contrast/character.
