    Now then,

I've been looking at a far wide end lens for a while but held off to get the 18-35.

The two I'm looking at now are the Samyang 10mm and the Tokina 11-16 (Classic wide choice for BMCC).

I've no desire for anything above 11mm on the tokina. So I was wondering head to head, for people with experience, which performs better optically? and what is the build quality of both of them like?

    Thanks for any help!

I'm pretty sure the 10mm would perform better optically, but be sure to double check if it can take filters easily. Thats something steering me clear of the rokinon 14mm.

Thanks Christian, I did know about the filter situation. I can remedy that with a matte box though. I'm just thinking purely optical, but definitely something to think about.

The 14mm Rokinon is really soft as well, but I heard the 10mm performs much better. The version I used was really disappointing, anyway.

I owned the Rokinon but used both on my old BMCC. I think the Rokinon performed a bit better, there's some distortion in both but at such a wide angle that's par for the course. The Tokina obviously gives you a bit more of a range to utilize, but if you don't need the range than I'd say Rokinon all the way. That on the wide end and the 18-35 to cover the normal/short telephoto range was all I needed for plenty of shoots.

Edit: To clarify I owned the Rokinon 10mm

Any reason you're not looking at the newer Tokina 11-20 instead?

    Alex,

Thanks for the input! I'm swaying toward the Samyang/rokinon 10mm. It's cheaper as well! You don't have any links to footage of your bmcc and 10mm in use, do you? There's not much good quality stuff out there with that combo.

    Jrd,

Your mention is honestly the first I've heard of it. Any chance of brief run down from yourself, as I check out some tests?

From what I've seen, it's deemed to be a bit sharper than the 11-16 (which it replaces in the Tokina line). And the extra 4mm is significant on a small sensor.

Image quality-wise it performs better than the 10mm??

    Appreciate the varied opinions!
