Mad Max: Fury Road (by far)
    Inside Out
    The Martian
    Force Awakens
    7 Fast 7 Furious
    Straight Outta Compton
    The Revenant
    It Follows

I've liked almost everything Tarantino has done but I did not like Hateful Eight. It was too self-indulgent, even for Tarantino. I honestly didn't find the 70mm capture to be that captivating. Lawrence of Arabia it was not.

There's still a bunch of stuff I need to see: The End of the Tour, Spotlight, Dope, Room, Steve Jobs, Carol

I didn't really love hateful eight, at least not nearly as much as Inglorious Bastards or other recent Tarantino work. The Violence / racism / gratuity just felt a little extreme. I mean I "get" his style and I can get into that, it was just a little much for me this time.

2014 was a far better year. Saw mostly 2014 films on DVD.

    2015 movies I liked:

    MAD MAX: Fury Road
    Force Awakens
    Hunger Games Mockingjay 2
Ex Machina (not as much as some)
    Trainwreck

    2015 movies I DISliked:

    Hateful 8
    Revenant
    Tangerine
    Sicario (mostly)
    The Martian (not completely)
    It Follows
    Mission Impossible Rogues
    End of the Tour

    Yet to see:

    Spotlight
    Brooklyn
    Room
    Inside Out
    Big Short
    Bridge of Spies
    Carol
    Anomalisa
    Macbeth*
Probably some others, but not as many as you might guess.

    * PS.

Note to serious, hardcore science-fiction filmmakers: I have written a reinvention of Shakespeare's Macbeth set on Mars in the year 2137.

So far the choices I've seen here are a little too commercial for me. I tend to hunt down the more obscure films. This is where the true genius lies in the art of filmmaking.

MY 2015 list in no particular order:

--The Art of Arthouse (a dialog-less interpretive short on speculation. Shot on 110 film with the camera turned 90 degrees - staggeringly good)

--ақымақ (an un-subtitled Kazakh indie about the life of a lost matchbook - absolutely brilliant)

--Mbaya (straightforward financial thriller. In Swahili [Uganadan dialect] - a bit Hollywood but the lead was amazing)

--Baho (story of a Filipino convent with plumbing problems. Produced by the Hiligaynon lower school district - an absolute scream)

--αστείο (a Greek tragedy indie about a falafel vendor who falls in love with a shoe. Oh, the the twist at end - genius perfected)
